I've become a blogger at last! I've been trying to avoid entering the world of blog for a long time, but the temptation finally proved too powerful. I think back to the years I spent trying to roll back the tide of mobile phone ownership, only to capitulate as the pressure kept growing. Of course I now wonder how I could manage without my phone - even though I'm still only on pay-as-you go because I'm not a "mobile-phone-aholic".
Why is it that we human beings are so often resistant to change? In my experience as a church minister, resistance to change has been at times completely illogical. One example I can think of is a gentleman who refused to sing any hymns from a new song book, even though the chosen hymn might have been exactly the same as it was in the old hymn book! I think that what lies at the heart of resistance to change is the fact that we don't like feeling insecure. What we know and have become used to, even if it isn't perfect, gives us a kind of security, and we don't want to lose that.
The recent shaking of the world economy has caused many people to seriously consider where their security lies. My hope and prayer is that the uncertainty all around us, and the realisation that the things of this world can't provide ultimate security, will cause many to turn to the only one who can give true security - the living God. Investments may rise and fall, jobs and possessions may come and go, but what we can find in God will last forever!
